I’d do anything for my students. 

Sometimes my actions they ain’t prudent.

 

I wanna see ‘em succeed,

To get everything they need,

So when life hurts and they bleed,

They’re gonna get on through it.

And I will say I knew it. 

I knew that you could do it. 

So get out there and kick butt. 

Tell your haters to shut up. 

Cuz they’re going to see you go far, 

Each One of you’s a shooting star.

 

Each day I come to work. 

And in the shadows lurk.

The thoughts that hurt my boys.

The voices and the noise 

That call them to their past, 

To a time when wisdom lacked. 

And choices weren’t the best, 

Now guilt’s inside their chest.

 

I wanna see ‘em succeed,

So every day I wonder, 

How my classroom can bring thunder, 

To fill their minds with knowledge, 

Maybe even get some to college. 

Or see some start a New biz, 

Making money like a whiz.

They’re all so very young. 

Ahead of them is all life’s fun. 

They always make me smile. 

 My drive to work’s worth every mile.

Life won’t always be nice.

Some things out there are cold as ice.

Some things will hurt like hell. 

But you can never tell 

What Joy the future brings 

When winter’s over and come spring.

So when it’s your turn at bat,

Remember your future’s where it’s at.

Don’t be afraid to swing. 

Just get up there and do your thing.
