One Christmas Santa came to DYS,

The reindeer they could only guess,

Why Santa seemed to be hard trippin’

they thought his sanity was slippin’.

DYS is locked up tight,

But ain’t no place keeps out Santa at night,

When its time for him to find an in,

For him break-and-enter ain’t no sin.

One Christmas Santa came to DYS,

The reindeer they could only guess,

Why Santa seemed to be hard trippin’

they thought his sanity was slippin’.

Santa checked out all the halls,

checked out all the bathroom stalls,

But all the youth were fast asleep

They didn’t need to count no sheep.

Santa and some staff they talked

He asked which youth really walked the walk

Which ones work hard to advance

to get home and give themselves a chance

to get home, to get a life on the outs,

one that’s really worth a shout.

One Christmas Santa came to DYS,

The reindeer they could only guess,

Why Santa seemed to be hard trippin’

they thought his sanity was slippin’.

When Santa came out up on the roof

Rudolph huffed and stamped his hoof.

“Santa, you know these boys are bad

I dunno what idea you had

comin’ here where all these kids

have got some charges and flipped their lids”

Santa he just kindly smiled,

Looked back down on every child.

Said, “Rudolph, you see charge and name,

I see the spark beneath the flame.

You see one night, one bad mistake,

I see the weight that people take.

You see the file, the ink, the past,

I see a heart that’s changin’ fast.

Christmas ain’t about who’s clean,

Or who looks good on a magazine.

It’s love that shows up where it’s cold,

And finds the good in folks left untold.

So pull the sleigh, don’t judge the floor,

There’s gifts of grace behind each door.

‘Cause when hope lands and mercy’s near,

That’s why I come back every year.”

Rudolph I’m surprised at you,

Remember how others treated you?

When your red nose was all they’d see,

Instead of how the heart inside be.

So don’t be mean leave these kids alone.

Don’t you know they just want to go home?

Christmas is much more than presents.

The real gifts are love and forgiveness.

Rudolph ashamed, champed and snorted

While he got his feelings sorted

“I wouldn’t want to live in a world with no hope

Gee Santa your wisdom’s kind of dope”

One Christmas Santa came to DYS, The reindeer they could only guess, Why Santa seemed to be hard trippin’ they thought his sanity was slippin’.

But now they know just why he went

On the mission he was sent

To check every youth on their way

To make their future A brighter Day
